Waste

The ThriveTogether Sustainability Playbook for Greater Cincinnati features a series of Implementation Measures for the community called the Priority Climate Action Plan.

This table of strategies was compiled from the direct input of shareholders in the region, gathered primarily on the Go Vocal platform.

With a diverse and varied region, robust public engagement is the central mechanism that formulates the planning and implementation process.

Proposed Implementation Measures for Waste from the Priority Climate Action Plan include:

  1. Create a local Green Hub to increase coordination and provide for more effective recycling, reuse, and organic waste diversion.
  2. Partner with local schools, governments, and park districts to implement composting programs.
  3. Develop infrastructure, incentives, tracking and reporting of food waste to reduce the amount of wasted food in the region.
  4. Provide access to recycling service / containers at multi-family buildings
  5. Counties should continue to provide regular household recycling events
  6. Capture methane from wastewater treatment facilities and use it to generate electricity to help offset the power needs of the facility
  7. Work to divert organic waste from the region's landfills
  8. Continue to work to reduce methane emissions at landfills
  9. Use an anaerobic digester to turn organic waste into compost on a large scale
  10. Process organic waste into biofuels and biochar
  11. Develop infrastructure, incentives, tracking and reporting of food waste to reduce the amount of wasted food in the region.

Please share your insights on our existing implementation measures or submit new ideas on what can be done to improve Public Policy Advocacy in your community.
