Public Health

The ThriveTogether Sustainability Playbook for Greater Cincinnati features a series of Implementation Measures for the community called the Priority Climate Action Plan.

This table of strategies was compiled from the direct input of shareholders in the region, gathered primarily on the Go Vocal platform.

With a diverse and varied region, robust public engagement is the central mechanism that formulates the planning and implementation process.

Proposed Implementation Measures for Public Health from the Priority Climate Action Plan include:

  1. Improve bike and pedestrian connectivity so that residents can safely access the places they need to go and transit for longer trips.
  2. Provide needed infrastructure support for Bus Rapid Transit, including transit centers and park & ride facilities.
  3. Develop more affordable housing close to good transit service.
  4. Continue to support the use of roundabouts at appropriate intersections to reduce delay and avoid unnecessary signals.
  5. Use data on trip origin/destination and traffic congestion to support recommendations to large employers to adjust timing of shift changes.
  6. Support ongoing intra/interstate Amtrak projects. Develop a proposal for a regional system.
  7. Implement programs to bridge the gap between rail travel and local destinations and movement while at the destination.
  8. Develop community solar to support local nonprofits and community-based groups.
  9. Increase the region's low and moderate income households' access to inexpensive renewable energy.
  10. Implement a carbon earnings tax and dividend to low-income and low polluters.
  11. Streamline utility grid permitting.
  12. Expand the number of households in the region served by the Home Weatherization Assistance Program.
  13. Provide incentives to replace inefficient household appliances and HVAC equipment with new electric-based equipment.
  14. Encourage the development of residential units that are more energy efficient / adopt enhanced energy efficiency standards.
  15. Conserve embodied carbon in existing buildings by avoiding demolition of existing buildings where possible.
  16. Encourage homeowners to plant trees and residents to use neighborhood parks.
  17. Encourage residents to use bike whenever possible to reduce carbon footprint and improve wellbeing and air quality index.
