GHG Inventory Process, Timeline, & Goals

January 25, 2024 - February 26, 2024

A regional greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory is a fundamental tool for fostering sustainability, guiding policy decisions, and engaging communities in collective efforts to address climate change and promote environmental stewardship. Through an understanding of our current emissions we can anticipate future trends; an essential component for building justice and resilience in the face of climate uncertainty.

Process

Emission estimates are being developed for each county across a variety of sectors (such as buildings, transportation, and waste) and fuels (such as natural gas, fuel oil, and kerosene). In some cases, we have very good data collected at the local level. In other cases, we have to make estimates by combining local and state data. By being as thorough as possible, we can help communities identify opportunities for improvement.
