Food Systems and Access
The ThriveTogether Sustainability Playbook for Greater Cincinnati features a series of Implementation Measures for the community called the Priority Climate Action Plan.
This table of strategies was compiled from the direct input of shareholders in the region, gathered primarily on the Go Vocal platform.
With a diverse and varied region, robust public engagement is the central mechanism that formulates the planning and implementation process.

Proposed Implementation Measures for Food Systems and Access from the Priority Climate Action Plan include:
- Partner with local schools, governments, and park districts to implement composting programs.
- Develop infrastructure, incentives, tracking and reporting of food waste to reduce the amount of wasted food in the region.
- Use an anaerobic digester to turn organic waste into compost on a large scale
- Establish a program or business to produce and source compost for use in agricultural production
- Encourage Cover Crop planting among local farmers
- Develop region-specific marketing and low GHG certification for local food products to allow farmers to monetize best practices
- Explicitly label food options' energy intensity
- Provide incentives to farmers to reduce carbon on equipment
- Incentives to lessen the risk of trying something new in food process and production
- Support education and workforce development to implement low emission AG and food service / rescue

Please share your insights on our existing implementation measures or submit new ideas below on what can be done to improve Food in your community.
Food systems are complex!
As food producers, consumers, transporters, and much more, you interact with this system in many ways. You should have a voice in shaping it as well!
Do you hope to have better access and education around community gardens? Do you observe food insecurity in your neighborhood, and wonder how to take action? Do you have an idea that you are hoping to get started in your community? Or a question for food system leaders?
Share your questions about food systems, challenges you're experiencing in your community with food, and ideas for how to build a more resilient and sustainable regional food system--and don't forget to share what community you're based in!
