Restoring a Wetland Park in Mt Healthy, Ohio

From "Post your proposal here and place it on the agenda of ThriveTogether"

I am writing this proposal on behalf of the Forest Ave Renewal Project for the restoration of the Forest Ave Wetlands Park through community engagement, volunteer participation, and professional services. Our proposed project aims to address the degradation of wetland ecosystems while fostering community involvement and education about the importance of these vital habitats.

Project Overview:

The restoration of Forest Ave Wetland Park  is imperative due to its critical role in maintaining biodiversity, mitigating flooding, improving water quality, and providing recreational and educational opportunities for the local community. However, over time, the wetland has suffered from habitat loss, invasive species encroachment, and pollution, leading to a decline in its ecological health and functionality.

Our project will involve a comprehensive restoration plan that includes the removal of invasive species, replanting native vegetation and engagement of our community through volunteer activities. To achieve these goals, we will mobilize community volunteers who will receive training and guidance from members of our team, which include a consulting ISA certified arborist, a Dr. in Biology and naturalists.

Importance of Wetland Ecosystems:

Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems on Earth, providing habitat for diverse flora and fauna, including endangered species. They serve as natural buffers against storm surges and floods, protecting adjacent communities from damage. Additionally, wetlands act as carbon sinks, helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Community Building:

Our project emphasizes the importance of community involvement in environmental stewardship. By engaging local residents, schools, and businesses in the restoration process, we aim to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility for the wetlands. Through hands-on activities, volunteer events and one on one time with volunteers, we will raise awareness about wetland conservation and inspire a culture of environmental sustainability within the community.

Conclusion:

The restoration of Forest Ave Wetland Park is a critical endeavor that requires collaborative efforts between environmental organizations, government agencies, and the local community. With your support, we can revitalize this important wetland ecosystem, enhance its ecological functions, and create a lasting legacy of community stewardship and environmental conservation.

Thank you for considering our proposal. We look forward to the opportunity to partner with you in restoring and preserving the Forest Ave Wetland Park.

evasive species are detrimental throughout the region. A mitigation model plan would be beneficial for other communities to learn from to learn best and effective practices. MT Healthy is a disadvantaged, low-income community and would be a good beneficiary of such a project that is on comparable scale as multiple govt bodies experience. A focus on preservation of the work done is imperative. Honysuckle itself costs taxpayers significant costs and destroy otherwise beneficial grounds scaping.

They are doing a great job in the wetlands park. It is getting back to where it was before all of the honeysuckle moved in.
