Pocket Oases to Train Apprentice Artists, While Cooling-Down Hot Spots

As a member of ecoartspace.org, the nation's largest professional organization for eco-artists, it's come to my attention that only 3 members (out of 600+) are African-American. It thus seems that not enough artists realize that painters and sculptors create environmentally-beneficial outdoor artworks. In order to alert younger artists to the possibility of becoming eco-artists who design and implement eco-friendly artworks, I propose commissioning seasoned eco-artists to design "pocket oases" for spots in need of cooling zones. Invited artists will recruit high-school and/or college-age artists in order to teach them how to design and implement ecological artworks. Sited in the city's hot spots, each 25' x 25' oasis will offer several features: a tree canopy, an understory, bushes and flower beds, as well as a social space, water feature, and dynamic sculpture. These oases will be both functional and educational, sharing with the community an awareness of its various practical elements' benefits. I imagine some artists privileging agro-forestry, while others will focus on biodiversity.
